Introduction Food Safety Food Security interplay
Food safety is the prevention of contagious diseases as well as the appropriate handling, preparation, and storage of food. Access to healthy food is referred to as food security, which also relates to a wider range of issues involving the availability, accessibility, use, and stability of food. Foodborne illness, food loss, and food waste are all caused by contaminated food, and low- and middle-income countries are most burdened by this.
The following presentation illustrates the relationship between food safety and food security and touches upon the situation in East African countries by briefly presenting a qualitative study done by Andrada Mierlut for her MSc thesis project.
