Lupin

A person can be allergic to the intake of lupin. Lupin, like , is a member of the butterfly flower family. Often, people with a lupin also have antibodies against peanuts in their blood. A lupin reaction can also occur on its own, without a peanut allergy. 

Examples of ingredients and products that (may) contain lupin:

  • lupin;
  • lupin flour;
  • lupin ;
  • lupin concentrate;
  • lupin isolate;
  • (, cakes, biscuits, biscuits);
  • pasta;
  • sauces, snacks;
  • diet products;
  • products;
  • meat substitutes;
  • pizza.

Itching in the mouth and hives, angioedema to severe such as anaphylaxis have been reported following lupin consumption. Acute asthma and tightness of the chest due to swelling in the throat have also been noted in cases of severe lupin allergy.Attention: 

  • Often used as a substitute for (gmo) soy;
  • Whole seeds are sometimes used to decorate bread;
  • Sometimes used as an egg white substitute.
